Communities of Practice

Three local or state organizations or communities of practice that appealed to you, and explain why you chose them

NAEYC is the organization that I have known since 2012. It is an organization committed to children's well being and that advocates for developmentally appropriate practice. I have several of its publications; I have used its magazines and books to study, to share with my colleagues and to keep up to date with the trends and issues in education. It is my go to resource.

Erikson Institute offers innovative studies and has a thorough professional development website. Erikson proposes innovative ways to look at and think education, based on current research. It is also a free resource that encompasses language and literacy and early math among other areas. It offers professional development modules which provide strategies and materials for teachers and instructors.

Skills and experience that you would need to competently fulfill each of these roles:
First and foremost, I believe creativity, growth mindset, life-long learner and open-mindedness are my most prominent qualities. To successfully fulfill most of the jobs above I would need to be knowledgeable, innovative, creative, organized and committed. Additionally, I would need to share my passion, communicate effectively with others and collaborate.

  2. Thank you for sharing these national resources. Each organization provides information that supports child development for children, families, professionals, teachers and advocacy. I like these organizations because each offers information that is research based and that is important when it comes to having sound information to teach adult learners about the field. I hope to be able to connect with these resources as I continue my journey in the early childhood field.
